ok. so i get this "profile protect" thing every quarter that shows me if there has been any new activity on my credit report for that quarter. the one i got in january was just like all the others i have gotten since i started this thing up. no new activity. of if there was, it was something that i had initiated. this most recent report? NEW ACTIVITY. so i looked at it. (picture me scratching my head going, hmm? that's not mine!) not only is there a new account showing up, this account has been sent to COLLECTION for non-payment. now i'm pissed. (of course i find this stuff out on saturday, when i can't do anything about it.) so i get to work this morning and the first thing i do is pull a credit report on myself. (ok, i didn't pull it, someone that works with me did.) sure enough, this mystery account is showing up on my credit report. this makes me extremely unhappy for obvious reasons. so i call the credit bureau to get the contact info for the collection agency so i can get to the bottom of all of this. i call and the guy there is really nice. tells me i need to file a fraud report with the cops. that he needs the case file number and then he can begin the removal process from my credit report. this bill we're talking about, THAT ISN'T MINE, is $2728. that's a big chunk o' change. the collection guy tells me that this account was last used in 2/03. 2/03? if this account has been open this long, why is it only now showing up on my credit report?? i've had my credit pulled recently and it wasn't showing up then! what gives?? needless to say, this pisses me off more. i call the cops and answer all of their questions and get a case number. i call the collection guy back and give him the information and get the contact information for the company that was the initial creditor. i call them and say "what the hell? this isn't mine! take it off!" (yeah, i know that's not how it works, but it made me feel better!) they started a trace on the account or whatever the hell they call it to look into it. and get this. i asked them if they could tell me when the account was opened. i get this response "well, the account is password protected, so i can't give you that information right now. when they contact you within the next 72 business hours, they can give you that info." so basically, even though i'm the one who has gotten screwed here, they can't give me any information! what kind of shit is that? so after all of those phone calls i got to call the 3 credit bureaus and place "fraud alerts" on them so that if anyone (me included) trys to open any new accounts they have to contact me first to determine if it is a legit request.
and how was YOUR monday morning?
