why do we only do/think about doing new years resolutions on new years eve? (i mean BESIDES the moniker "new years resolutions") why don't we do it every quarter or once a month or something? (don't ask why this topic came to me, i don't know.) i noticed something last night that was a little eye opening. i watch a lot of sports (mostly baseball and football, but i will watch basketball on occasion, especially if i have a chance to watch the lakers lose.)
i know i swear A LOT. i've been half assed in trying to cut back or quit altogether. i know this. (see, swore already!) but last nite as i was flipping back and forth between the mariner's game and the nba finals, i noticed that i used the word "fuck" with alarming regularity. ie: the ump didn't just "suck" he "fucking sucked". see the problem? there are certain things i don't say. EVER. among them? (G***amn, C**t, G**dammit) but the rest? i say all the time. i mean hello? on the curse word quiz i was "fuck" for pete's sake! duh.
so i'm thinking that maybe i should think about changing my ways. i mean, every year people make a list of resolutions that typically go out the window by january 31st, if not sooner. they ususally read:
1. lose 50 pounds
2. stop smoking
3. stop drinking
4. stop smoking crack (oh wait, is that just me?)
5. eat better
6. excercise more
7. yadda yadda yadda
you get the drift. this whole subject has made me wonder. what is acceptable as a non cuss word cuss word? i mean if i really really want to say "fuck!" but say "fudge!" or "firetruck!" (believe me, i know i'd look like a lunatic if i said "you firetrucking idiot!" it's just an "instead of" word that popped into my head!) instead, does that then make the "instead of" word a cuss word? if my first instinct is to say "for the love of God" but i say "for the love of all that is holy" is that just as bad? or is that acceptable?
anyway, i'm taking "instead of" words now. feel free to leave yours in the comment box on your way out.
